To waterproof a sofa or armchair at home, it is essential to know how much the waterproofing product yields. So you can take the doubt if it is worth doing the service at home or hiring a waterproofing professional. Let's take your question now.

1 - Performance of waterproofing:

Waterproofing ecotextile for fabrics yields an average of 150ml per m². It is possible to achieve better yields of the waterproofing on suede, velvet or suede fabrics using the squeegee technique.  In linen and chenile fabrics, which are super absorbent, the yield of Ecotextil drops to 200ml per m². Never apply less than the indicated performance, this will impair the performance of the product.

Now, you need to calculate the area that will protect and evaluate the appropriate amount of product. Which area of the sofa do you want to protect? Let's consider a 3-meter sofa, for example, as shown in the image. As the example is a retractable sofa we have a seating area of 3 × 1.5m, which gives us 4.5m². For the seat (yellow part of the image) considering the type of fabric and yield we need 674ml of Ecotextil (4.5 x 150). If you want to protect more parts of the sofa as backrests, use the same method.

A sofa waterproofing service for a 3-meter-wide piece costs between R$ 700 to R$ 1,200.00. In stores that usually sell the waterproofed sofa, the value of the service is usually imbued in the price of the sofa itself, where the seller offers it as a "gift".

2 - Efficiency and result

Using Ecotextil waterproofing material, no type of fabric is at risk of staining. That's because Ecotextil does not have resins, silicones, glues, anything that reacts with the fabric, of any quality. The application is super safe. Some waterproofing companies do not apply to linen and chenille fabrics because they cause irreversible stains caused by flammable waterproofing materials, where the solvent (usually hydrocarbons) reacts with the fabric paint. In this regard, special mention is made of the fact that Ecotextil is neither toxic nor flammable. It has no smell, that is, you are totally safe when applying the waterproofing.

3 - Duration

The duration of the waterproofing depends directly on the use. Remember that the waterproofing of fabrics will be on a malleable structure, where the fibers move with the impact. This movement can generate opening of the weaves of the fabric and create points of penetration of liquids. Ecotextil lasts an average of 1 year, which is the average wear time of the fabric creating penetration points.
